Neotame is the newest of today’s FDA-approved artificial sweeteners, and it’s starting to appear in drinks, dairy products, frozen desserts, baked items and chewing gums. And, like many next-gen creations, it’s more powerful than anything that’s come before it.
7,000 to 13,000 times sweeter than sucrose, 30 to 60 times sweeter than aspartame
It’s great to keep water with you. Especially when it’s hot, and especially when your water has True Lemon, True Lime or True Orange in it! But these days, with concern about chemicals leaching from plastic bottles, it pays to be careful about how you’re carrying your H2o.
Some of us at True Citrus (we won’t name names) recall our old Scout canteen – a round, aluminum one that came with a canvas cover and a long strap that made it hang almost to our knees.
Remember about five or six years ago when Sheryl Crowe got breast cancer and told Ellen DeGeneres it was from plastic water bottles? And people thought she was kinda crazy?
Well, you rock, Sheryl! Because since then, studies have shown the plastic chemical Bisphenol A (BPA) does alter genes in breast cells and does leach from plastic containers. While the cancer-BPA link isn’t yet entirely conclusive, Canada has banned BPAs in water bottles and many U.S. states are limiting it too.
Here at True Citrus, we like to see who’s keeping it real and who’s not. Our spotlight today is on Vitaminwater, which really should be called Sugarvitaminwater, according to a consumer group.
With 33 grams of sugar and 125 calories in each 20-ounce bottle, The Center for Science in the Public Interest says Vitaminwater is an obesity-promoter that’s just pretending to be a health drink.
Vitaminwater has said its beverage reduces the risk of chronic disease, promotes healthy joints and supports immune function. Actually, says CSPI nutritionists, the sugar in Vitaminwater promotes obesity, diabetes and other health problems.
Like feathered hair and crochet tops, real sugar products are back in fashion. But before you rush out for that Throwback, we at True Citrus ask you to keep in mind that too much sugar – even if it’s real --isn’t much better for our bodies than that out-of-style high-fructose corn syrup.
Many of our customers with diabetes love all-natural, zero-calorie True Lemon, True Lime and True Orange because it helps them cut down on sugary drinks and salty foods.
But it seems as if Vitamin C might have added benefits for those with Types 1 and 2 Diabetes.
One of today’s new wonder-substances are Omega 3s – the fatty acids found in salmon, sardines and flax that reduce inflammation and lower blood pressure, triglycerides and “bad” cholesterol.
Who wouldn’t want that? At True Citrus we're all for better health through food!
You know you can use all-natural, zero-calorie, no-sodium True Lemon, True Lime or True Orange instead of extra salt, sugar and butter to save fat and calories effortlessly.
Here's other ways you can still eat those yummy, comforting meals without feeling so guilty, from Heart Healthy magazine:

“Colors of the world. Spice up your life. Every boy and every girl. Spice up your life. People of the world. Spice up your life. Aaahh!!!”
Did you know that in Europe, foods containing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) must be labeled so consumers can choose to eat them or not?
Sounds good to us! But here, while GMOs are regulated by the FDA, they don’t have to be labeled. So unless we buy everything organic, we don’t know when we’re eating them.
